Language ?? really ... ???

Now... am not a person who has the right to speak about politics simply because there is so much I dont know.. and as they say partial knowledge is much more harmful than no knowledge.
I am a Chennai-ite ... and a very proud one too... in my eyes there is no place like Chennai... but I still don't understand all this importance on "Tamizh pride" now there is no doubt that it is a beautiful language with so much richness and culture in it... Thirukural, Avvaiyar, I can go on and on ....
All this being said... is it right to say it is better than any other language ?? If we are proud of our language isn't it obvious that other's are proud of theirs too...how can we claim that our language is superior compared to others?? Is it fair to say that people with Tamizh background will be given a preference and the others will not !!! is Tamilnadu following Maharashtra's footsteps?? is it an ethical thing to do or follow??

380 crores spent on advocating Tamizh and primarily politics ((despite the fact that it was to just promote the language)) .... dont we have much more persistent issues than language ... what about the garbage dump in the suburbs..where there is a current issue of health issues spreading rapidly , conditions of our government schools, inflation ..

It's sad that at this day and age where we speak about globalization and the whole world being one .... this kinda thing takes place... isnt this legal racism and discrimination ?? wont this create more division and hatred ?? the language is great but isn't humanity more important?? Isn't it criminal to waste out tax money on such issues when clearly it can be better spent??

Things like this takes us not just one of two steps ... but miles behind where we stand...

A sad and disappointed Chennai-ite

Politicians ultimately have the knack of kindling emotional issues ,more so when elections appear at the horizon.May it be Language,Religion or Geographic domain.
The money exchanged during elections so blatenty & people voting for the party who has handed over the largest share of Goodies...What a sad state of affairs ..But then life moves on..Sad state isnt it...This Tamizh Thiruvizha is part of the above scheme of things..Good,you sitting far beyond the Shores of Chennai, you are thinking about whats happening here !!

CU - I completely agree ... they get us all worked up in the little unimportant issues and we tend not to look on the big ones... Its a distracting technique of sorts ... sigh ... far or near Chennai is home isn't it ?

I was also thinking alike u, but while watching the show I was slowly dragged by the beauty of Tamil that flows from the experts. I think there’s so much to learn about our language we spoke everyday, but there should never be a thought exists treating others languages dishonor. The language is a tool to communicate and we could use Tamil as a very comfort language within our home, but to a society that is common to everyone, we need to realize that Tamil is not alone the language exist in the world.
I’m with u against the politics and the facts u mention needs much attention than spending much unnecessarily, but I feel this conference is also needs to realize few thing in life which is common to everyone.

India being a vast country with over differences in every tiny thing from clothing to food to language.. being one country with many cultures trying to outshine one another. Maybe that's why the people in Tamil Nadu feel discriminated and condemned upon.. with darker skin tone and way of speaking... maybe they.. or rather we, are trying to "prove" that we are as good or even better than other culture in India... but you did point that obvious racism throughout the country...

Well, its all about politics.

To the common man, it doesn't mean anythings who are worried about their bread and butter.

I just posted something very similar on my blog and felt every related.. the thing is India is such a diverse nation in every sens of the phrase .. and that includes discrimination as well, Sadly!!

I'm not a big time lover of Chennai.. and sometimes i find the Tamil pride(yes, I'd like to spell it like that 'coz I'm not speaking to you in Tamil and its difficult to pronounce :P) a bit intimidating. I mean, its not just tradition that makes a culture/language rich, its could also be novelty, intellect, practicality, mysticism. so Tamil being older than time should not be its only claim to fame. i might sound a bit harsh here.. but trust me I'm not. I respect it for its opulence but i feel it sometimes gets a bit carried away. I mean a Hindi speaking north indian faces a whole lotta problems even in a metro like Chennai. Its only adds shame and disrespect you both Tamil and Tamils.
